Rachana announces annual Awards for five outstanding personalities

Mangalore, Oct. 31:  Rachana – Catholic Chamber of Commerce & Industry celebrating its 11th consecutive year. It was founded in the year 1998. Rachana  – catholic chamber will conduct Rachana annual awarding ceremony. This year also five outstanding personalities from various fields have been chosen for Rachana annual awards. The award will be conferred on Sunday November 17 at Milagres Silver Jubilee hall in Mangalore.

Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, Rachana President Ivan D’ Souza said the awardees are Ms. Jacquelin Calaco Bangalore (Woman of the Year), Prof. Edmund Frank Mangalore (Agriculturist of the Year), Mr. Rohan R. Monteiro (Entrepreneur of Year), Dr Stanislaus F. D’Souza, Mumbai (Professional of the Year) and Lawrence Mendonca Dubai, U.A.E (NRI Entrepreneur of the Year).

Ms. Jacquelin Calaco Bangalore: Jacquelin Calaco is a lady with an indomitable spirit and resilience. She represented India in the national Hockey team in 1971. When she was 36 she affected with debilitating disease rheumatoid arthritis at the peak of her life as a Banker in New York. Now at 63 she is rendering her valuable service to the association of people with disability.

Prof. Edmund Frank Mangalore: A first generating agriculturist. He has converted barren land at Bolanthoor, Bantwal into a high yielding farm with areca nut, coconut, banana, papaya and a variety of fruit trees. He is also an educationalist, banker, social worker and philothropist of far excellence.

Mr. Rohan R. Monteiro: With a humble beginning by selling consumer products to a massive real estate empire of Property Infra tech India Pvt. Ltd. He has carved a niche with 9 completed and 10 ongoing projects. He is also a philanthropist who has helped for a right cause of every community and provides direct and indirect employment to over 1400 people.

Dr Stanislaus F. D’Souza, Mumbai: He was outstanding scientist, associate director, biomedical group and Head Nuclear Agriculture and Biotechnology Division Bhaba Atomic Research Centre Mumbai who is retires recently. He has over 42 years of research experience. He has to his credit over 200 scientific papers in reputed international journals, over 200 papers in text books and seminar proceedings.

Lawrence Mendonca Dubai, U.A.E: He is an alumni of St. Aloysius College and B.E. (Mech). He has been an entrepreneur in Dubai for the last 36 years. He is a proprietor of Standard Fabrication and Engineering Works, Dubai and partner of 8 other companies that employ approximately 1000 people.

 The award distribution ceremony programme will be presided over by Mangalore Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza. Union Transport, Road and Highway minister Oscar Fernades will be the chief guest. Dr. M.Shantharam Shetty vice chancellor, nitte University Mangalore and J.R.Lobo, MLA Mangalore South constitency will be the guest of honour.

A panel of 15 eminent members from Catholic community selected the awardees. The juries are Dr. Derek Lobo, Dr. Errol Pinto, Ms. Eulalia D’Souza, Mr. Felix Pinto, F.X.Gomes, Gilbert D,Souza, Capt. J.P. Menezes, Marcel Monteiro, Marjorie Texeira, Dr. Meera Aranha, Dr. Norman Mendonca, Mr. Roy Castelino, Mr. Walter D’Souza, Felix Albuquerque, C.J.Lobo.

Mr. Ronald Gomes, convener of Rachana awards 2013, Marcel Monteiro past president, Mr. William Rebello, P.R.O were present in the press met.
