Vehicle Rally against Niddodi Thermal Power Project

Mangalore, Oct.23: Lakshminarayana Asranna, Chief Priest of Kateel Sri Durga Parameshwari Temple has urged the government not to neglect the people’s movement against Niddodi project.

He was speaking after flagging off a vehicle rally in protest against the proposed Niddodi ultra mega power project, led by Matrabhoomi Samrakshana Samiti of Niddodi at Kinnigoli to Moodbiri here on Tuesday, October 22.

“The people should unite across religious lines to protest against dangerous projects which are disastrous for health and destroy the environment, he added.

Alphonso D’Souza, president, Niddodi thermal power project opposition committee said that Niddodi power project will have dangerous effect on the environment. The committee will convene mammoth Bangalore chalo campaign and go on hunger strike in front of CM’s residence to make him aware of the ill effects of the project,” he said.

Fr William Martis said that the government should know the effects of projects such as the thermal power plant on agriculture, places of worship, tradition, etc. “The government may start taking people for granted if we remain silent, and that would be dangerous” he warned.

Lakshminarayan Asaranna, priest, Sri Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple, Fr William Martis, Fr.Alfred J.Pinto, arish head, Kinnigoli, Devaprasad, Bhaskar Devasya, president, Matrabhoomi Samrakshana Samiti, Robert Rosario, president, Rotary club, Bhunabhirama Udupa, Yugapurusha’s Kodethur were present among others.

Over 300 vehicles participated in the protest rally.
