Veerappa Moily launches mega Campaign on Petroleum Conservation

Mangalore, Oct. 15: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily launches mega campaign on petroleum conservation jointly organised by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Maco Co-operative Society Ltd at Maco petrol bunk near Balmatta here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the Union Petroleum Ministry was willing to offer subsidy for cycle stands and to buy bicycles in an effort to save fuel if local administrative bodies are willing.

The ministry could save up to Rs 2.5 crore fuel cost as all the employees of the petroleum ministry travelled on public transport system last Wednesday. This is a positive step towards conservation of fuel,” he said.

He further saidA new committee has formed with the initiative of economists, Vijay Kulkarni for fuel consumption in India. There are plans to cut down 50 percent of fuel import by the year 2020, 75 percent by the year 2015 and achieve complete cut down in fuel import by the end of year 2030, he said. We can produce oil and now 75 percent of fuel is being imported and change in mind set up can help in producing oil, he said.

State Minister for Youth Services Abhayachandra Jain, Legislators Moidin Bava, JR Lobo, Congress leaders Ivan D’Souza, Kallige Taranath Shetty, Ibrahim Kodijal and others were present on the occasion.
