Mangalore, Sep 29: A large number of people took part in the ‘World Heart Day Run-2013’ organised by KMC hospital from Dr T M A Pai Convention Centre to Dr B R Ambedkar Circle.
Former cricketer and Secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, Vijay Bharadhwaj lit the athlete’s torch, while renowned athlete Shiny Abraham and Olympian high jumper Sahana Kumari flagged off the Run.
Participating in the run, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, UT Khader said that people must be aware of cardiac diseases and should try to be fit. “Regular workout will keep them fit and healthy”, he suggested. “Government is going to introduce heart check-up facility in government hospitals for people above 3 years”, he said.
Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo said even though we participate in the world heart day run, it is not enough to run merely on the World Heart Day. We need to have running and walking exercises as a routine affair as it is only a healthy life-style that can keep us physically fit.
KMC Dean Dr M V Prabhu, Executive Director of Corporation Bank B K Srivastav, Dr Lakshmi Prabhu, Dr R L Kamath and others were present. Prizes were awarded to the winners of various contests conducted as part of the Day.
