Udupi, Sept 20: Addressing the audience in “Yakshotsava Prashasthi Pradhana” programme held on Sept 20, Friday at Rajangana, Ganesh Karnik, former MP, said in his presidential speech that Yakshagana is not mere as an art of entertainment but it also contains valued based Indian tradition, culture hidden behind it. In view of identifying and preserving our culture in coastal Karnataka region, we have to encourage it and in this regard, Udupi is in front line for preserving our tradition and culture and has been doing a marvelous job.
Todays, this function is one of the best programmes in terms of preserving our culture and tradition. He added further that all these arts must strive to create awareness in the society. In one way and somewhere onslaught on our culture is being taking place and some unwanted evil things are entering our houses. Besides present education system is contrary to the experiences of our elders.
Yakshagana is an art, is being viewed collectively by family members like father, mother, brother, sister, grand father. This is not merely a media for entertainment but it is such a value based media, which convey the desires of the people and meaning of the life through these beautiful collections of stories. This is what Yakashagana is!!.
