Kasargod tense as CPM worker found murdered; Bundh Total

The 12-hour bandh from 6 am to 6 pm, called by the Left parties, to condemn the murder of CPM worker M B Balakrishna Mangad, was total in the district.

The supporters of the bandh took out a protest rally in Kasargod, Bovikkana, Manjeshwara, Kanjangad, Neeleshwara and Chervattur. Shops were closed and KSRTC, private buses did not get into the road, except for a few private vehicles.

Significant shortage of attendence was recorded in schools and Government offices while colleges enjoyed an undeclared holiday.Police forces were deployed to check into any untoward incidents. Security was tightened in sensitive areas like Uduma, Mangadu, Aryadka, Bara, Palakunnu and other areas, along with the deploying of additional police staff from Kannur.CPM worker and Tempo driver M B Balakrishnan, a resident of Mangad near Hosadurga was found murdered on Monday night at 8.45 pm. The body of the diseased was found lying in a pool of blood near GLP School in Bara near Mangad, with several injuries.

He breathed his last on the way to hospital.The incident occured when Balakrishnan was returning on his bike after visiting a funeral near Aryadka, near to his house. His brother Balachandran was also stabbed by miscreants last year.

The deceased is survived by wife Anitha and children Adira and Akshay.As the news of his death spread, Uduma MLA K Kunjiraman, former MLA C H Kunhambu, K V Kunhiraman and others visited the hospital.

The body was handed over to the family members, after carrying out the atopsy at Pariyaram Medical College. The last rituals were performed at his residence in Mangad in the evening.

Cong blamed for murder

CPM district Executive committee member and former MLA C H Kunhambu had alleged the role of Congress and Muslim League supporters behind the murder of CPM worker M B Balakrishnan, following CPM- Congress and CPM- League tiff in Uduma, Mangad and Aryadka.

Agitated over the murder of the CPM worker, people pelted stones on the vehicles and houses of Congress workers on Monday night. Stones have been pelted on the houses of DCC member Kadavangana Kinhikelu Nayar, INTUC mandal president Majid Mangad and a car belonging to Youth Congress worker Shyam Kumar.

3 detained

Bekal Police have detained three Congress workers in relation to the murder case and the investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Hosagurga S I Babu Peringoth.

IGP Suresh Purohith (North) and SP Thomson Jose visted the spot of the murder on Tuesday and collected information. They also carried out a discussion with Bekal Police, in relation to the case. Police sources say political grudge as reason for the murder..
