Karkala: Vijaya bank celebrates ‘Amrita Mahotsava’; aiming for rupees two lac thousand crore rupees business by December-says Upendra Nayak

Karkala; August 25: Addressing the gathering on the occasion of bank’s Amrita Mahotsva (75th years celebration) celebration, Upendra Nayak, President and MD of Vijaya bank said in his presidential speech that in the field of public banking, Vijaya bank which was rendering service to the customers with smiling face, was started as Scheduled bank, today there are 1400 branches across India and with 965 ATM machines that too credit of being the first bank to install ATM machine.

He further said that presently the bank’s turnover is one lac seventy three thousand crore and by December 2013 bank is aiming to do the transaction of rupees two lac thousand crore and behind this giant mile stone, there are boundless efforts hidden.

He also said that in the beginning there were objections and hick ups but slowly and gradually started to progress. But it is needless to say that behind this success story, customer’s contribution, co-operations have never been forgotten. The bank which was started with humble clients on August 3, in the year 1938 at Karkala, is today celebrating its 75th years of its existence. This is not bank’s function, this is customers function, he added.

After inaugurating the programe Dr Mohan Alva, chief guest of the day said in his address that the bank which was opened with the sole purpose of helping the farmers in their agricultural activities, is now offering loans to the farmers. Besides he said that we are proud that it has become one of the very famous banks.

Garlands, flowers have been offered on the portrait of Attavara Balakrishna Shetty, founder president and Mulky Kakvaguthu Sundaram Shetty and remembered.

On this occasion bank’s senior customer, Shreenivas Udupa, Adam Saheb, I M Shettigar have been felicitated.

Dr Sudhakar Shetty, President Jnana Sudha education shikshana samsthe, Govinda Prabhu, retired principal, Bhuvanendra College and Ramdas Shetty expressed their experiences and feelings.

Smt.Shalini S Shetty,Udupi regional asst.general manager,Kusuma Shetty,Mangalore regional office asst.general manager, Karkala branch general manager Ashok Kumar and among others were present on this occasion.

Kusuma Shetty welcomed the gathering and Venugopal compered the programme.
