Mumbai/Mangalore, August 21: Mangalore based athlete Surekha has bagged gold award in Triple jump during district level athletic meet organized by Masters Athletic Mumbai. 45 year old Surekha is a commerce graduate and is an alumnus of Karnataka women’s polytechnic Bondel and Besant College in Mangalore. She has bagged many state and national level athletic medals during sports events held at different locations.
She is a proud daughter of late Mucchur Sundara Devadiga, former president of Karnataka Sangha,Dubai and active social worker and Smt Sindhu Devadiga house-wife, residents of Konchady in Mangalore. She has three sibblings-2 sisters and one brother and all are married and well settled.She is happily married to Hemnath Devadiga,who is settled in Mumbai doing private job and blessed with a son Abhishek, who is doing his second year B Com in Podar college, Mumbai.
She bagged bronze medal in shot-put at the district level sports meet organized by Masters Athletic in 2012,silver medal in Discuss Throw, silver medal in 3000 meter dash and bagged bronze medal in state level Masters Athletic meet in Hammer Throw and silver in High jump.
She won silver medal for Hammer Throw in 32nd Indian Masters Athletic meet held in Karnataka in June 2012 and gold medal in 4×400 relay competitions. Also she won silver medal in Indian Master’s Athletic meet held at Trivandrum in May 2013 for 5000 meter dash, bronze in Hammer Throw followed by silver in 4×400 relay and gold medal in 400 meters race.
Besides sports and athletics, Surekha also participated in drama, dance and fancy dress competitions. She was an acclaimed NSS student during her college days.
Surekha has many accolades and falicitations to her credit.In August 2012 udupi Palimar Mutt Seer Shri Vidyadisha Swamiji felicitated her during a programme in Nerul organized by Devadiga Sangha.Surekha is currently the vice president of Cultural Committee of Karnataka Sangha Mumbai and attributes her success to her husband Hemnath Devadiga and son Abhishek.
