Karkala: Technology is inevitable as Cashew industry faces acute shortage of laborers-Says Union Minister

Karkal;August 18:  Cashew production conference and machinery cum sale exhibition-2013 organized by State Cashew manufacturers association  for three days starting from August 17 to August 19 was held at Pulkeri Shree Laxmi Sabha Bhavan,Karkal.

 Addressing the gathering Oscar Fernandez, union transport minister said in his chief guest speech that Cashew Industry has given an employment to many people and provided financial security apart from playing an important role in the international market and which in turn, will have a direct impact on economic condition of the country.

Since the industry is facing acute labor problem, opting for technology is inevitable and need of the hour, he said.

No talk on Cashew producer’s problems and non-availability of raw -cashews:

Though comprehensive talks were held about the technology and marketing in the conference, no talks were held on problems faced by the cashew manufacturers and non-availability of the raw cashews to the industry, forcing the industries to import from other countries.In this context government has not taken any measure to mitigate the situation. Besides the farmers are not given a reasonable price for their produced products in the market, as a result of which farmers are not evincing any interest in the production.

If the cashew manufacturers association join hands with the farmers by facilitating their requirements, required quantities of the cashew in the country can be produced in the country itself, it said
