Mangalore-Madgaon intercity train from December; Just 6 hrs of travel!

MANGALORE: Come December, the Coastal city will connect to Madgaon by Mangalore-Madgaon Intercity Train. This was announced in the Railway budget.

The train will depart from Mangalore Central at 8.15 am to reach Madagaon at 2pm. In the reverse journey, it will leave Madgaon at 4.15 pm to reach Mangalore at 10 pm. K Jayaprakash Hegde, Udupi- Chikmagalur MP said that the train would be operational in December this year. Already on this route the Mangalore-Madgaon passenger train operates but at inconvenient timings.It leaves Mangalore Central at 6.20 am and reaches Madgaon at 1.30 pm. In the reverse direction, it leaves Madgoan at 2 pm and reaches Mangalore at 10 pm. Hegde said the Bhatkal – Thokuru Diesel Multiple Unit ( DMU) train will also start operating from December 2013. The train will have stops in Udupi, Surathkal, Bhatkal, Kumta, Karwar and Madgaon railway stations.

The Intercity train is scheduled to connect Vasco-Nizamuddin Goa Express leaving at 3 pm for Delhi. It will help coastal passengers who will be travelling to Londa, Belgaum, Pune, Delhi and Shirdi.
