UDUPI: Deputy commissioner M T Reju on Thursday said that the district administration has decided to set up traffic monitoring points and install CCTV cameras in 10 places on major roads near Manipla University areas.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the DC’s office here on Wednesday.
The DC, who presided over the meeting, said that auto drivers plying in Manipal will be provided with unique numbers.
Officials, who attended the meeting representing Manipal University, said that steps will be taken to provide security to students on the way to their hostels or rooms after 10 pm. It is also decided in the meeting that personnel from the district police will conduct patrolling on the university campus at night.
The excise and police department officials were notified to ensure that bars and restaurants close down as per the prescribed timings in Manipal.
The DC also informed that a helpline will be opened to assist students and public in the coming days.
