MANGALORE: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Tuesday arrested a person at the Mangalore airport and seized 580 gm of gold concealed in a TV set.

Thirty-nine-year-old Mohammed Aslam, from Kasargod’s Nayamarmoola, had arrived from Dubai by an Air India Express flight and was arrested around 9.15am following a tip-off. Five biscuits of gold, concealed in two condenser tubes which weren’t part of the 32-inch LED TV, are valued at Rs 14 lakh.

The accused reportedly claimed that the gold was for personal use and denied acting as a conduit. He is said to be a first-time offender and this is his first visit abroad. He owns a shop in Nayamarmoola and sells imported chocolates.
