Police are ready to provide security to theaters, if they resume screening of ‘Dilwale’: City Police Commissioner.

Mangaluru, December 24: City Police commissioner S Murugan on Thursday December 24 addressed a press meet at his office here said that police are investigating on the incident of forcible stopping of Shah Rukh Khan’s movie ‘Dilwale’ in theatres in the city by Bajrang Dal activists. If the theatres need securities to resume the screening, the police are ready to provide it, he informed.

In protest against Shah Rukh Khan’s statement on intolerance, the Bajrang Dal activists on Sunday December 20th, had forcibly stopped the screening of SRK’s ‘Dilwale’ movie in three malls in the city. Following this incident, the theatre managements had suspended the shows.

Police commissioner S Murugan said, news has been spread that police have not provided adequate security for the screening of ‘Dilwale’. Last Sunday, when ‘Dilwale’ was being screened, a few people protested in front of theatres stating that screening of the film hurts their sentiments. The police immediately after getting the information about the protest made proper security arrangements.  The theatre managements were asked to file complaints and they were also assured of security. If the film theatres need security we can provide it, he said.

He said, meetings were also conducted with theatre managements and clearly said that we will provide protection. But the theatre managements have not taken any measures to screen the film, he added.

In connection to this incident, a case has been filed in Pandeshwar police station and investigation is going on, he said, referring to the complaint filed by Vidya Dinker of Citizens’ Forum for Mangalore Development.

He said, a person had made derogatory statements on Facebooks against the complainant. The person was immediately called and strict warning was issued and the post was deleted. If we receive complaints, we are ready to take any action within the limit of law, he said.

He added, we are ready to provide security to theatres if they want to screen ‘Dilwale’ movie. He conveyed his wishes on the occasion of Eid Milad and Christmas, and said that police have made adequate security arrangements to ensure peaceful celebrations.

In the press meet, ACP Shantharaju was also present.
