Notorious thieves arrested by CCB police, items worth Rs 9,75,000 seized.

Mangaluru, June 11: A team of notorious thieves which was engaged in chain snatching, arecanut and cattle theft was arrested by the Mangaluru CCB police.

The arrested are identified as Habeeb Hassan (35), resident of BK Cottage, near permannur rice mill, in Chembugudde, Mohammed Shafi(41), from Chokkabettu in Suratkal-Krishnapura, Mohammed Azaruddin(23), Mohammed Nawaz (21) from Suratkal and Vijay(25) from Hosabettu.

The burglar’s team was arrested by cops near Chembugudde, while they were transporting the stolen arecanut bags in a Ford Ikon car for sale.

The accused had stolen the arecanuts from the shop of Mohammed Muneer at Kinya Kanakamajalu, Parthipady, Panel Bakimar, and near Mudipu after breaking open the locks of godowns during night.

About 25 quintals of arecanuts were stolen from places such as Jarigebailu under Belthangady police jurisdiction, Kukkaje under Vitla police jurisdiction, Baddakatte under Bantwal town police jurisdiction and other places, which were already sold.

Police have seized a Ford Ikon car, 1650kg arecanuts, and 5 cell phones from the accused. The value of seized items are estimated at Rs 9,75,000.

Under the directions of Mangaluru Police Commissioner S Murugan, guided by DCP (Law and Order) K M Shantahraju, and DCP (Crime Branch) Visnhuvardhan; CCB inspector Valentine D’Souza, PSI Shyamsunder and other personnel participated in the operation.
