Former cricketer Javagal Srinath, addressing the gathering said, Parents must mainly teach the importance of education to their children. Education and cricket are different aspects. Parents play an important role in children choosing cricket as their preferred sport. Nearly 80 percent of the children’s evolution into cricketers is dependent on family support and other aspects. Education will ensure a secure future. As there are only 11 players in a team everyone cannot get a chance to play for India.

Cricket is highly based on cognitive skills. When children play cricket, it enhances their team spirit and social bonding with others. If a child plays cricket for two hours daily, it will build his personality. Parents should make sure that education and sports should go hand in hand. In the Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association, there are 800 members, but I think there should be at least 900 players. A Club is very important as it builds the loyalty of players. I thank the organizers for inviting me here, he said.

Dr Shantharam Shetty, vice-chancellor of NITTE University said, Srinath has already discussed on giving equal importance to sports along with education. About forty years ago, matches used to be held at Nehru Maidan which received a great support. We often tell Anil Kumble hails from our district but he became a cricketer only after he went to Bengaluru. We are leading in many other sectors, but why not in cricket? There is a need of good infrastructure for cricket. I request the sports minister to build a cricket stadium in Mangaluru under his leadership.

Abhayachandra Jain, minister for sports and youth services said, if children are interested in playing cricket, parents should support them. Sports is also essential along with education. Parents want their children to have a good and secure future, so they enrol their children into professional courses. I will do my best to build a cricket stadium in Mangaluru as suggested by Dr Shantharam Shetty.

On this occasion, Javagal Srinath was felicitated and certificates were distributed to children who participated in the cricket coaching organized by the Association.

The gathering was welcomed by Mahabala Maarla, Former mayor and President of Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association, Mangaluru.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, Sadananda Shetty, Chairman of Shree Devi Institutions, Vinay Hegde, chancellor- NITTE university, Shridar Kamath, director of Gopal Kamath and Company were present along with many others on this occasion.
