Mangaluru, May 16: A labourer from Shivamogga was admitted to Government Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru on Friday, May 15th, after an iron bar penetrated into his face.
The incident is reported to have occurred in Shivamogga. As advanced treatments were not available there he is brought to Mangaluru for advanced treatment. The doctors are attempting to remove this rod from his face through surgery.
The injured man is Venkatesh(60), resident of Bhadravathy in Shivamogga. He is a mason by profession.
On Thursday night, May 15th; he was sitting near a drainage by the road side. As the construction of the drainage was progressing, small Iron rods bent in right angle were fixed there.
As it began to rain, Venkatesh who was sitting there; while attempting to stand, slipped and fell into the place where construction work was going on. In the process, the iron rod which was at the place penetrated his face through one side and appeared at other end.
The people who saw this, immediately swung into action. Using a hack saw blade they cut the rod and rushed Venkatesh to Shivamogga Meggan Government Hospital. As advised by the doctors there, on the same night, he was brought to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru.
Venkatesh is out of danger, but is suffering from profuse bleeding and severe pain. Hospital sources have said, through surgery, an attempt will be made to remove the rod struck in the face of Venkatesh.
