Mangaluru, May 5: Grand culmination program in the evening marked the end of four day long national level 19th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championship On Monday, May 4th.
Along with the prize distribution for the winners, awesome cultural event was also organized.
On this occasion, the dignitaries felicitated the winners. Overall prize winner Army team and women’s Kerala team were felicitated. The second winner Karnataka women’s team was also felicitated.
Best sports person among men was awarded to Indrajeeth Singh of Haryana and Sabrani Nanada of Odisha among women respectively.
Later the Punjabi youths group presented awesome Punjabi war art and enthralled the audience.
During the culmination program, president of Karnataka State Athletics Association Dr G Parameshwar, Sports Minister Abhaychandra Jain, Health Minister U T Kahder, MLA’s J R Lobo, Moideen Bava, MLC Ivon D’Souza, ZP vice President Sathish Kumpala, Deputy Mayor Purushottama Chitrapura, Secretary of Athletics Association of India C K Wilson, State Secretary Chandrashekar, District Association president Manjunatha Bhandary, Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Department H S Venkatesh, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada District A B Ibrahim, and Miss India Runner up winner Aafreen Vaz were present as the special guests.
Humidity of Mangaluru had an impact on the performance of athletes:
The time scheduled for the sports was impractical for the athletes. The humidity of this place affected the performance of athletes. It would have been better to organize such a sports event here in the month of November or December opined the sports technical association members speaking to the media.
Meager audience:
Meager number of audience was seen during the sports. National Sports organized here in 1987 witnessed huge crowd when Television was less, said one of the members of the organizing committee.
