Incident took place on June 6, Thursday morning, when teacher Vanita, resident of Konaje was on her way to school at around 9.30 am, two persons came by bike and told her that they are from police department and as the robberies in the recent past had drastically increased in this area and they have been deployed to guard this area. One of them said, she was not supposed to wear the gold and  hence remove the jewelry she was wearing and keep them in the bag.

Believing his story, Vanita removed her two bangles and Kariyamani (sacred black beaded neck chain) and began to put them in the bag. Men also assisted her and hurriedly left the place.

After sometime when Vanita checked her bag, to her utter dismay she realized that her ornaments were missing.

She immediately informed her husband, who was also a teacher in the same school. However it was too late by then as the duo have fled the scene.

She lost a total of 109 grams of gold, which include two bangles weighing 25 grams and Karyamani weighing 84 grams.

Bunder police arrived to the spot and started investigation

It may be recalled that similar cases have been reported in the city and in places like Bangalore and Kundapur in the past. The modus operandi has been the same in all the cases with women being the target each time.

However despite police cautioning public, particularly women against believing strangers, such incidents are being repeated.
