Duo pretend as customers, pocket diamond worth Rs 7 lakh from City’s Jewelry shop

Mangalore, June 2: In a strange incident two women dared to steal diamond worth Rs 7 lakhs from Tanishq jewelry shop located at Balmatta in the city on June 1, Saturday.

Sources said that two women came to shop at around 2 pm and asked the salesman to show them gold bangles. Accordingly salesman in the counter handed over the bangles to the women, who in turn checked the designs of the bangles again and again.

In the process they were trying to divert the attention of the salesman by continuously talking. While on talking, they cunningly pocketed two bangles without anybody’s notice.

After the incident, women left the premise of shop and theft came to light only when the salesman found that two diamond bangles were missing.

It is said that based on the footage of CCT camera installed in the shop, they could found out the identity of the accused. One woman was wearing a yellow churidar and the other one with coffee colored churidar.

Sources said before they came to Tanishq, the duo had tried to steal gold ornaments from other two jewelry stores in the city.

A similar type of theft had been reported in the city about six months back,it is said.

Shop owner lodged a complaint with Bunder police. Under police have registered a case in this regard and investigation is in progress.
