Mangalore, May 29: An appeal has been made to health minister U T Khader by Akram Hasan, state secretary, SDPI on May 29, Wednesday at press club to upgrade the present primary health centre at Ullal to 50-bed government aided district hospital.

Considering the volume of population in Ullal constituency, which approximately over 2 lakhs, Akram Hasan said in his address that the need of the hour is for minimum 50 bed government hospital to meet the need of the people as of today.

Criticizing the newly elevated minister for youth  welfare and fisheries, Abhayachandra Jain’s decision of quitting the portfolio merely on religious grounds and said that he should not bow down to pressure from any community.

He further said that India is a secular country and fish being the staple food of the Karavali people, it is the duty of the minister to serve the society not particular community without any prejudice and should not come under any pressure from any community.

Also he said,”if Jain is unhappy with the post, he should have brought it to the notice of chief minister rather than making public statement. Later he retracted and said that he was not a “Sanyasi” to do so as he had been misquoted by the media, which Akram is not agreeing.

Denying allegation of recent episode of circulating handbills against U T Khader of participating in “astamangala puja” during recently concluded state assembly election time, which is anti-muslim, he said SDPI’s main purpose is to build communal harmony and not to creating mistrust and hence allegations were all false and baseless, he added.

Akbar Ali, chief secretary, Nawaz Ullal, district committee member were present at the press meet.
