Driver of the Hit and Run case nabbed at Chitradurga along with his lorry

Mangalore/Mulky ,May 29:  It has been reported that the culprit of the hit and run case on April 5,2013 near Bappanadu temple in Mulky has been arrested by Mulky police team  along with his lorry on May 28,Tuesday at Chitradurga.

Report says,Shivarajappa,aged 28,an employee of Mulky  police station was knocked down by an unknown vehicle, when he was  checking passing vehicles along with his two other colleagues Pramod and Seetharam at Bappanadu police outpost, near Mulky.

It is said that as they have been posted at Mulky outpost in view of approaching state assembly election, they were checking passing vehicles as preventive measure during state assembly election. It was around 3.30 am in the morning of the fateful day, lorry which was heading towards Udipi from Mangalore was asked to stop for checking but driver of the lorry without stopping lorry hit the cop and fled the scène, killing the cop instantly on the spot.

Mulky police, who have been chasing after the case, were able crack the whip through CC camera evidence installed near Hejamadi check post. When they found the similarity in the Udipi check point’s incident of hitting and also could able to track his mobile number and subsequently they could succeed in arresting the driver.

When they check, his mobile it was observed that he kept his mobile in stop mode for three days as per one of the investigation officers revealation.It was also came to light that he has removed the number plate of the lorry after the accident and this was noticed by udipi police, sources said. Marks of hitting on the barricades were also there on the lorry, were visible on the lorry.

Accused driver Lohit was produced in judicial custody and was released on bail subsequently and lorry was taken under the custody of police.

Deceased Shivarajappa got married with Manjula from the same village, teacher by profession one and half years ago and is advanced seven months pregnant now.

Deceased Shivarajappa was basically hailing from Arabakatte in Davanagere of Honnali taluk and recruited in 2008 at Sullia police station and later he was transferred to Mulky, a dedicated, sincere cop, sources said.
