Mini-Ship sunk off the Mangaluru coast- Sailors who were floating for hours rescued by fishermen.

Mangaluru, January 13: A mini ship ‘Vijayalakshmi’, had sunk near the port on Monday, morning January 12th.

The ship, ‘Vijayalakshmi’, had sailed off on January 10th, from Kiltan in Lakshadweep and was loaded with materials.  It was located about eight km away from the dock here, when it sank at about 4 am before sunrise on Monday.

The ship had sailed to Mangaluru with goods from Lakshadweep.

It is learnt that all the seven sailors on board the ship are safe, identified as Raghuraman (24), Manikantan (26), Krishnan (37), Manikyavelu (39), Karunanidhi (42), Muttu (46), Pannirselvam (59), who saved themselves.

The captain of the ship, along with six other sailors who hailed from Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, had clung to wooden planks for about seven hours and floated in the sea.

It is learnt, some fishermen who ventured into the sea on a fishing boat in the morning, rescued them.
