Assistance to selected 298 disabled persons will be distributed under ADIP scheme.

Mangaluru, December 27: Under the Assistance to disabled persons (ADIP) scheme, free aids and equipment will be distributed to disabled persons on Sunday.

The program is organized under the joint collaboration of Dakshina Kannada district administration, Southern regional centre of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment).

Speaking to the reporters, at a press conference held on Friday, December 27th, Chandrika S Nayak, Dakshina Kannada district physically challenged welfare officer said that in a comprehensive assessment camp held on January 24th in Mangaluru, 750 disabled persons were assessed, and 298 persons among them were selected in the district.

Chandrika informed that a total of 298 selected beneficiaries from Mangaluru, Belthangady, Bantwal, Kundapur (Udupi) taluks Sullia, and Puttur, and would be distributed necessary aids and equipment worth Rs 13 lakh in the camp held on Sunday, December 28th.

She also revealed that, aids such as 35 wheelchairs, 47 walking sticks for the visually­impaired, six tri­wheelchairs, 77 hearing aids, 32 artificial limbs, four artificial arms, 46 calipers, two congenital talipes equines varus shoes, five modified shoes, posterior splints, eight elbow crutches, 39 Braille slates and activity kits for 68 mentally handicapped children will be distributed in the camp.

A B Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner  has informed that on Sunday, the necessary aids would be distributed only to the persons who had been selected as beneficiaries in the assessment camp in January and transport arrangements are made to bring the beneficiaries from distant places of the district to the venue.
