Make Public Distribution System Mandatory, Says Amarjeet Kaur

Mangalore, May 15: Addressing the media reporters on May 14, Tuesday Amarjeet Kaur, CPI (M) National secretary said in her speech that Universal public distribution system (PDS) to be introduced by the union government to ensure that 35 Kg of wheat and rice are sold at Rs 2 and Rs 3 per Kg respectively, in view of the price rise of essential commodities to help the poor.

Further she said that it is the responsibility of the government to distribute ration at the lowest possible price and hence there should be no categorization among the poor, she added

She said government should have an agenda to provide pension to agricultural workers and farmers, artisans and people working in unorganized sectors.

Mahatma Gandhi National scheme (MGNREGS) has failed to reach the expected result due to the encroachment of corruption. Providing minimum wages and ending Labour Law violations are necessary to eliminate unemployment, she opined.

Kaur said that the CPI (M) will support the food security bill without cash transfer option. The cash transfer system mentioned in the bill will be bad for food security, she added.

The party will hold a nationwide campaign to promote pro-poor-reforms and will launch a Satyagraha in September.
