Fishermen’s association protest demanding to release the subsidized kerosene oil.

Mangalore, October 20: The Dakshina Kannada district gillnet and traditional fishermen association members picketed the office of deputy director of fisheries in Bunder at Mangalore on October 20th Monday and protested demanding to release subsidised kerosene to the fishing boats immediately.

There are about 2,500 boats in Dakshina kannada and over one lakh fishermen have housed Oat board engine to their boats to carry on fishing. Similarly, in Udupi district there are 6,000 boats and more than six lakhs people carry out fishing.

The Karnataka state government has declared 300litres of kerosene oil in order to support traditional fishing. The protestors expressed their fury over the government stating that, it is deceiving fishermen by not distributing the subsidized kerosene oil.

Dakshina kannada district gillnet association president Ali Hasan, honorary president Satish Kotian, president of Karavali Nadadoni association B K Vasudev, chairman B.A. Basheer , Subhash Chandra Mulihitlu  were present during the protest.
