Mourning to Ms Gomathi , former Principal of Besant’s Women’s College.

Mangalore, October 14: The former principal of Besant Women’s College in Mangalore and the honorary secretary of Besant educational institutions Ms Gomathi (84) has rested in eternal peace on Monday, October 13th at a private hospital in the city. The body was placed for the last view and tribute was paid to her on Tuesday, October 14th in the city.

Mayor of Mangalore Mr Mahabala Maarla, KSP district chairman S. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, the Principle of the SDM college of Management studies Mr Devraj, MCC standing committee chairman D.K. Ashok, veterian Yakshagana artist Professor Prabhakar Joshi and along with other dignitaries paid tribute to the departed soul.

Dedication to the field of education:

Professor Gomathi had dedicated herself to the field of education. She passed her intermediate (English Literature) at Thallessery /Tellicherry in Kerala state. She studied BA in the then Madras Presidency College and BT in Thallessery. She began her professional life as a English faculty and later as a Professor at Palakkad Victoria College and got transferred to Mangalore Government College (current University College) in 1954.

She was appointed at Maharaja College at Bangalore and served there for some time. Later she served as principal in Besant Women’s College from 1980-1988, she served as the secretary of the Besant administrative institution for a continuous term of 26 years.

Veerappa Moily’s condolences:

Former central minister Veerappa Moily has expressed his deep condolences on the departure of Professor Gomathi. He recalled that Gomathi had imbibed her vast knowledge in English among her students.
