Udupi, September 25: A youth attempted suicide here on Thursday September 25th post alleged to be tortured by Cops based on plaint from a girl who had accused him of teasing her.
Praveen (24), a resident of Laxminagar, Malpe, has attempted to suicide by consuming pesticide at his residence on Thursday morning.
It is gathered that, a local girl and her family had filed a complaint against Praveen and eight others on September 21st, alleging that they were harassing her. Praveen’s elder brother Purnachandra said that the case was false and Praveen was being harassed by the girl and her family. When Praveen approached the Malpe police to file a counter complaint, the police reportedly refused to register his case.
Moreover, Praveen’s younger brother Sachin alleged that Malpe Cops on September 21st had assaulted and tortured nine persons including Praveen after taking them into custody on charges of supplying ganja and molesting the girl.
It is learnt that, on Wednesday September 25th, while Praveen was attending a marriage at his neighbour’s house, the police arrived and warned him and the others in front of the villagers. “Praveen was ashamed by the incident and was depressed, and hence he tried to commit suicide”.
Purnachandra has appealed to the Udupi SI to conduct a thorough investigation and take stringent action against the Malpe Cops.
Prior to attempt suicide, Praveen has written a death note in which he stated that he had not committed any mistake.
Praveen has been admitted to Adarsh hospital and his condition is serious.
It is reported that, according to the cops, there were complaints against the youth and his group over ganja addiction and they had the hobby of disturbing the girls. Post this incident, since ganja was unavailable, Praveen had attempted suicide, stated the Cops.
But the youth has luckily survived and is being treated in hospital.
