Cong-BJP in tussle: Students prevented from voting at Capitanio booth

Mangalore, May 5: It has been reported that tension prevailed at capitanio polling booth on May 5, Sunday as the BJP workers stopped few students residing in a hostel at Kankanady from voting.



Incident has reported when the students came,BJP workers prevented from voting saying they were not from Mangalore and from other place and they are not entitled to exercise their franchise here and should vote in their hometown.


Sources said that students have been stopped from casting their votes in spite of having their names in the voters list.


As the news spread, congress workers too arrived and there was a heated argument. Security forces including BSF personnel and paramilitary forces had to intervene to avoid any major calamities.


Even when JR Lobo requested the police to allow students to vote, police personnel said they could not do anything much.


Even a teacher who came from Tirthahalli to vote was not allowed to vote in spite of her name was there in the list. Teacher in her tears in her eyes along with students group returned without voting. Police maintained tight security in the area following the incident.
