Evan is a nine-year-old boy who earns 1 million a year reviewing his favourite toys. He set up this YouTube channel with his father Jared back in 2011 and now his channel EvanTubeHD has a over million subscribers and 1.2 billion page views.
His little sister Jillian sometimes accompanies Evan, and they review new toys and attempt fun challenges. His father Jared is a self-employed filmmaker who combined his love of filmmaking with his son’s love for toys to create the famous channel.
Evan also has two other channels that feature his sister Jillian, father Jared and mother Alisa called EvanTubeRaw and EvanTubeGaming. He posts on each of his channels once a week. Evan’s father Jared told Fast Company, “When we first started the channel, we had no intention of making a cent from our videos. We didn’t even know it was possible.”
But, after Evan’s reviews started getting thousands of hits, Jared started to get a little more curious about that ‘monetise’ button available to YouTube content creators. So he clicked it on one of Evan’s videos.
“Lo and behold, money started showing up in our AdSense account,” says Jared, as written in Fast Company, “Granted, it wasn’t much—maybe a few dollars a day. But I thought if I took this small stream of income and put it into a mutual fund, by the time the kids were ready to go to college, there would be a nice chunk there to assist with rising costs of education.”
Jared explains in Fast Company that Evan is still just a regular nine-year-old, which he credits for their incredible success. ‘I think one of the biggest attributing factors is Evan’s ability to connect with viewers,’ he says. ‘They see him as their friend and somebody they can relate to.’ And better than the money, Jared tells Fast Company, and almost as good as getting to spend his days with his family, he says one of the main benefits of producing EvanTubeHD is being able to teach Evan—and his rising-star little sister—the importance of being a good role model.
