Luebeck (Germany), April 13: Nobel Prize-winning German author Gunter Grass passed away at the age of 87 in Luebeck on Monday, said Goettingen-based publisher Steidl.
Grass, who won the Nobel in 1999, penned seminal works of fiction like The Tin Drum and the Danzig Trilogy.
Grass had drawn flak of Israeli authorities in 2012 after he wrote a poem criticising Israel and its policies. Israeli authorities declared him a persona non grata in their country.
Grass was also a playwright, illustrator, graphic artist and sculptor. He was born in the Free City of Danzig on October 16, 1927.
