Ankar: Turkish government Tuesday said the Iraqi Kurdish forces could cross its territory into Syria at any moment to fight against Islamic State (IS).
“There is no political problem in deploying Peshmerga forces of Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government to the Kurdish populated Syrian town of Kobane, for fight against Islamic State militants,” Xinhua quoted Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu as saying in a televised interview.
Some 150 Peshmerga forces will be sent to Kobane through Turkey soil, the minister said, stressing that the delayed crossing was due to “confidence problem” between Syrian and Iraqi Kurdish groups.
He added that the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), which is defending Kobane and the Free Syrian Army of Syrian rebels, agreed on the latter`s arrival in the town to join battles against the IS.
Kurds in Turkey staged violent protests three weeks ago over the government`s unwillingness to help support Kobane, also known as Ayn al-Arab, which left 40 Turkish citizens dead.
