Bhubaneswar: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday that the credit for the formation of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre goes to the people and not to any individual or party.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had fought the 2014 Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Narendra Modi, who became the Prime Minister following the saffron brigade’s triumph. In the run-up to the elections and after that, ‘Modi wave’ was a buzzword in the Indian media.
“Credit for formation of new government goes to the people of the country as they wanted to bring about a change. It was not due to any particular leader or party,” Bhagwat said at a function in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar without naming anyone.
The RSS is viewed as the ideological parent of the ruling BJP.
Stressing that people get the government they deserve, Bhagwat said the same people as well as parties were present earlier, but no change of guard had been possible.
Addressing a BJP meet in Delhi on Saturday, Modi had hailed party president Amit Shah as the man of the match of the team that won the general elections, while terming home minister Rajnath Singh the captain of the team.
RSS chief Bhagwat also stressed the security and development of the country and said its responsibility lies with the people and not with the government because voters are “owners” (of the state).
Speaking in Cuttack, Bhagwat said if inhabitants of England are English, Germany are Germans and USA are Americans, then why all inhabitants of Hindustan are not known as Hindus.
“The cultural identity of all Indians is Hindutva and the present inhabitants of the country are descendants of this great culture,” Bhagwat said, while speaking at the ‘Golden Jubilee’ function of an Odia weekly here.
