Hyderabad: Following the seizure of a car with burnt currency notes inside, Nalgonda police sought an explanation from former Huzurnagar MLA N. Uttam Kumar Reddy about the incident.

The district police sent notices to the former MLA, and his firm Photon Energy Systems. The vehicle is registered in the name of Uttam Kumar’s brother Goutham Kumar, police said.

“We issued a notice to the MLA, his company, and his brother Goutham Kumar seeking explanation. Four teams have been formed to find out who the people in the car were before the incident,” Suryapet DSP Mr Sravan Kumar said.

Nalgonda police is investigating if the cash was being transported to lure voters on the polling day. “As there was an ‘MLA’ sticker on the vehicle, we suspect that the money was going to be used for polls. We are investigating that angle,” said the DSP.

Police suspect that the driver had fled leaving the car at a deserted place. Higher officials said that the arrest of the car driver would be a major breakthrough in the case.

Nalgonda police has also taken the help of forensic experts to find out the reason behind the fire and said that the vehicle was on its way to Kodad from Hyderabad when the car caught fire.
