LUCKNOW: The Election Commission on Sunday imposed a ban on Yoga guru Ramdev from holding any public meetings or press conferences in Lucknow district till May 16.

The ban applies to Lucknow and not rest of Uttar Pradesh.

Ramdev is in trouble over his remark that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi goes to the houses of Dalits “for honeymoon and picnic”.

Two separate FIRs were filed on Saturday against Ramdev, one of them by Uttar Pradesh police, for his controversial remarks that Rahul Gandhi visited Dalits’ homes for honeymoon.

The Election Commission had on Saturday come out with fresh guidelines against making “malicious” statements about the private life of individuals and said those who do this will not be allowed to hold programmes during polls if they violated the orders.
