A group of 25 women commuters were on Saturday invited by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to the Central Secretariat metro station and taken on a tour of the station.
They were shown important components of the metro system, like the station control and technical rooms, as part of its “Know Your Metro” campaign.
For women commuters
The programme, launched on the International Women’s Day, intends to make women commuters aware of the basic functioning and emergency services of the Delhi Metro.
The women were also told about the Automatic Fare Collection, CCTVs, public address systems and tunnel ventilation. Inside a train, they were told about the functioning of the Passenger Emergency Alarms inside the coaches.
The Delhi Metro has decided to continue this campaign, as part of which it will invite a group of women commuters once a month.
In addition, it will also invite participants for the “Know Your Metro” campaign through its website.
The DMRC will urge the government, private offices, schools, colleges, non-government organisations and residents’ welfare associations to send their employees or members for the same.
“The main purpose of the programme was to sensitise women commuters about the various facilities available inside the Metro premises and trains for their safety. To inspire women, we also made them meet known women achievers like Income Tax Commissioner and acclaimed artist Sangeeta Gupta and former athlete Sunita Godara,” said a DMRC official.
