The resignation of Kiran Kumar Reddy as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh was accepted and a report was sent to the Centre by the Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Friday.
Sources said Mr. Reddy has been asked to continue as the caretaker Chief Minister till an alternative arrangement is made. Similarly, the council of ministers was also asked to continue till alternative arrangements are made, according to a communique from the Raj Bhavan.
A special officer from the Governor’s office flew to New Delhi on Friday morning with two reports, one to the President and another to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Governor, it was stated, sent a detailed report on the political situation prevailing in Andhra Pradesh consequent to the resignation of Mr. Kiran Reddy. He had earlier sought the opinions of chiefs of all political parties after the Chief Minister submitted his resignation on Wednesday.
Political circles in the State capital are agog with discussions over whether President’s rule would be imposed in Andhra Pradesh or whether the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) would elect a new leader to succeed Mr. Kiran Reddy.
