Chief Minister-designate Arvind Kejriwal is in no mood to waste even a minute after taking oath. He will chair his first cabinet meeting as the chief minister of Delhi at about 2 pm at Delhi secretariat on Saturday, an hour after his swearing in ceremony.

Sources say the cabinet may send a recommendation to the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to summon the Assembly session on January 1.

It is understood that the cabinet may approve providing 700 litres of water free to every household daily and free water tankers to the areas where piped water is not available.
Sources in the AAP say Kejriwal may also discuss the CNG price hike in the meeting as the party is under tremendous pressure for settling the issue with the autorickshaw unions, one of its core vote bank.

A rebate on CNG prices or any other sop for autorickshaw unions is also proposed for the first cabinet, sources said.

“The first cabinet meeting of the new government is scheduled at 2 pm. We have been asked to prepare for the cabinet meet. As there is no cabinet note prepared, the first meeting is likely to be a curtain raiser for the cabinet ministers. However, there is a possibility that the ministers may table any issue in the cabinet’s agenda,” said a senior Delhi government official.

After the cabinet meeting, the new CM is likely to call all the Delhi government bureaucrats for a meeting. Sources say with no space available for such huge crowd in the Delhi secretariat, the meeting may commence in standing postures only in any of the halls available in the building.

The Chief Minister’s Office, which was occupied by former chief minister Sheila Dikshit for the last 15 years, is now being cleaned up for the new CM. The plants, statues, paintings and other decorative elements which were placed in the office on Dikshit’s order were removed on Friday.
