NEW DELHI, December 14:  On Friday, all eyes were on cricket icon and nominated Rajya Sabha member Sachin Tendulkar as he made his first appearance at the Upper House during the ongoing winter session.

He came to Parliament with wife Anjali.

The ace cricketer, who wore a checked shirt and black pullover, was greeted by enthusiastic members as he walked into the House just before the House was called to order before question hour.

After paying homage to the martyrs of Parliament terrorist attack, Chairman Hamid Ansari said: “It was a matter of great pride that the government has decided to confer Bharat Ratna on Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, a nominated member of the House and an outstanding cricketer.”

Amid thumping of desks by members, he congratulated the ace player on behalf of the House. Mr. Tendulkar stood at his seat and acknowledged the greetings with folded hands.

After the House was adjourned within minutes, several members besieged the cricket hero, seeking his autograph and shook hands with him.

Nominated member Mani Shankar Aiyar came up to the cricket legend and engaged him in a long conversation. In between, Mr. Tendulkar continued to sign autographs. Finally Mr. Aiyar also got the icon to scribble something for him.

Mr. Tendulkar, who recently retired from cricket, last came to Parliament during the monsoon session in August. Later, he and his wife were seen talking to Samajwadi Party member and actress Jaya Bachchan.
