Srinagar August 12;Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday hit back at the BJP for criticising his Government over the handling of the Kishtwar communal violence, saying it should recount its response to the 2002 Gujarat riots.
“Three unfortunate deaths — one Hindu, two Muslims — and we have a judicial inquiry, with my Minister resigning. Would the BJP care to recount the 2002 response?” Mr. Omar asked.
“Would (Arun) Jaitley be so kind as to inform (the) Parliament whether the (then) Gujarat Home Minister or MoS Home resigned or even offered to (resign) in 2002,” he said.
Calling the BJP leaders “hypocrites,” Mr. Omar said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi waited for days to call out Army for controlling the riots in his State and has not apologised for it so far.
“Oh that’s right, they can’t because their star PM hopeful waited for days to call out the Army and has yet to apologise. Hypocrites(!),” the Chief Minister wrote on the micro-blogging site twitter.com.
BJP had on Sunday slammed as “undemocratic” the J&K Government’s action in stopping its leader Arun Jaitley at Jammu airport and preventing him from visiting the riot-hit Kishtwar. It accused the State Government of not allowing the truth behind the communal clashes to come out.
