Four terrorists, 1 jawan killed in encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara

Srinagar: Four terrorists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in a village in Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

An Army jawan of 9 Para was also killed in the operation, which concluded in the wee hours of Thursday, a police official said. He said the identity and group affiliation of the slain militants was being ascertained.

Security forces launched an anti-insurgency operation on Wednesday night following information about presence of terrorists in the forest area of Sochalyari in Handwara area, the official said.

A large cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the site of the encounter.

This is the third major encounter between terrorists and security forces in North Kashmir in the past week. On Wednesday, top terrorist of Lashkar-e-Islam, a splinter group of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in an encounter in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district.
