New Delhi:  Monsoon will be delayed by four-five days this year, the weather office said on Friday.

“Monsoon is likely to arrive on the mainland of India over Kerala around June 4-5,” officials of the Indian Meteorological Department or IMD told media.

“The wind pressures and speed had not become conducive for the Monsoon to advance over the Indian land mass, which is causing the delay,” Dr BP Yadav, Chief Forecaster for IMD, told media.

Earlier, the weather office had predicted the arrival of the Monsoon by May 30.

The IMD in its long range prediction, forecast a ‘below normal’ monsoon rainfall pattern over the entire south-west monsoon season this year.
