Patna, June 13: Even as he maintained the suspense over the fate of his party’s alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday indicated the possibility of formation of a third front.

“The idea of a third front has not yet taken a concrete shape. But if we raise a united voice based on a common cause then it could give rise to a possibility in the future. We are also a backward State; we will also raise our voice so that a stronger common voice will emerge,” he said.

Mr. Kumar said he had spoken to Chief Ministers Mamata Banerjee and Naveen Patnaik over the phone on the idea of building a common platform.

Ms. Banerjee held the view that Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal shared certain common problems, which could be brought together on a united platform, he noted.

On the future of his alliance with the BJP, he said his party was still having consultations with BJP leaders.

“We will hold discussions within the party on the political situation. Right now it won’t be appropriate to take a hurried decision.”
