Politics and protests have continued over the tragic death of farmer during AAP’s kisan rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Gajendra Singh, a farmer from Dausa, committed suicide by hanging himself from tree during the rally on April 22, 2015. Here are four questions that still remain unanswered:
1.What killed Gajendra Singh?
* Was the note Gajendra left behind a suicide note?
* If so, was the note truthful about his state of affairs?
* Was he indeed thrown out of home, as it claims?
* Where did he get the cloth he hanged himself with?
* Was Gajendra at Jantar Mantar to fight his own battle, or was he there to voice the plight of fellow farmers?
2.Why it doesn’t add up?
* The note claims he was thrown out of family home by his father.
* Family says he was not thrown out.
* Villagers say Gajendra’s dad was fond of his son.
* He was no poor farmer. The family has around 17 bigha of inherited land.
* These lands are in the name of Gajendra’s father.
* Gajendra helped his father on the farm during sowing.
3.Was the crop damage angle for real?
* In March, unseasonal rains harmed crops in 33 Rajasthan districts.
* Gajendra’s village claimed 80% crop damage, but government apparently said it was about 30%.
4.Keen to make a name?
* Gajendra had told family he’d be back after appearing on TV.
* Was known to be a man with a fighting spirit, keen to make a name for himself.
* Had a weakness of photo-ops, won title ‘Mr Desert’.
