NEW DELHI: Two people including a seven-year-old died and 15 others were injured in a fire that gutted three residential buildings in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on early Sunday morning.

Fire officials sent 10 fire tenders to the location and the flames were doused within two hours.

The incident was reported around 4.30am from the Babu park area near the Mangolpuri police station. Fire officials said that the exact reason for the fire is yet to be established but preliminary investigations suggest that it was caused due to a short circuit at a store room in one of the house.

The buildings which are home to more than 30 residents were evacuated and the injured were rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi hospital where a woman identified as Surekha (30) and the child Gayatri died during treatment.

Fire officials said that atleast five other people have more than 60% burn injuries and are said to be serious.

Officials said that the three storied buildings had several families staying together and did not have a fire escape route which led to the casualties.
