New Delhi, June 7, 2013, DHNS:

The special cell of the Delhi Police have managed to get custody of bookie Ramesh Vyas on Friday. Vyas is linked to the underworld and was arrested by the Mumbai Police last month.

The Mumbai Police claim that he was a key mediator between underworld dons Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel and Indian bookies placing bets in IPL matches.

A senior police officer said Vyas was also linked with spot-fixing accused bookie Ashwani Aggarwal, who was arrested by the Delhi Police last month.

Close involvement

A statement by Vyas had revealed that actor Vindoo Dara Singh was closely involved in the facilitation of deals between some bookies and IPL players.
“He was handed to us (Delhi Police) on Friday and he is being brought by a team of six Mumbai Police officers by train and will arrive on Saturday,” the officer said.

The Delhi Police had submitted Vyas’s production warrant seeking his custody on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Vyas filed a complaint as he was not released from judicial custody despite being granted bail from a Mumbai court.
Vyas, who was arrested on May 18, was granted bail on Tuesday. But the Delhi Police issued a production warrant the same day.

“After completing legalities, he was handed over to us. When he reaches Delhi, he will be confronted with other arrested bookies,” the officer added.

MCOCA

Vyas was apprehensive about coming to Delhi as he feared that stringent charges under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) would be invoked against him.

The investigators had invoked MCOCA on Tuesday against the 26 arrested accused, including three Rajasthan Royals players, S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan.
