The world’s ‘largest and tallest’ Indian tricolour was unveiled by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Tuesday in Faridabad, Haryana. He was accompanied by Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor. This is the first time that the actor, who is known to maintain a low-profile off-screen, has met the BJP chief in public.

The gigantic flag weighs 48 kilograms and has been hoisted at a height of 250 feet. It measures 96 feet by 64 feet and is set to make its way into the Limca Book of Records. A flag at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), which is hoisted on a 222 ft (67.67 m) high flagpole, previously held the record for the tallest tricolor. The flag unfurled today also displaces a tricolor at the National Military Memorial in Bangalore which measures 72 feet by 48 feet and previously held the record for largest flag.

Another such monumental flag is located at the Central Park in the heart of Delhi. It was installed by former MP Naveen Jindal and is 90 feet by 60 feet in dimension.
