New Delhi: Amid the debate over Rahul Gandhi’s leave of absence, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said it would have been good if the party vice-president had attended the ongoing budget session of the Parliament.

“Very seriously, it would be good if Rahul Gandhi had attended the budget session… That is something that we offered on a platter to the opposition,” Tharoor said at a discussion on his latest book, ‘India Shastra’, with journalist Rajdeep Sardesai on Friday evening.

At the same time, Tharoor said he respected Rahul Gandhi’s move and expressed confidence that he would return from his break with an agenda for change.

“He has every right to make his decision. I am very confident that he would come back renewed and bring an agenda for change.”

Meanwhile, the debate in the Congress over the leadership issue that triggered after Gandhi’s leave refuses to die down with party leaders speaking in different voices.

Former Union minister Ashwani Kumar termed as “totally uncalled for and utterly distasteful” suggestions that Sonia Gandhi should retire.
