Cattle fair kick-starts at Avani; Tamil Nadu-Andhra farmers participate

Kolar:  A fortnight long cattle fair started at Sri Ramalingeshwara Kshetra in Avani in Mulbagal taluk of Kolar on Wednesday.

The taluk administration and the Department of Animal Husbandry have made elaborate arrangements for the fair, where hundreds of farmers from different districts of the State take part to sell and buy cattle.

The popularity of the fair attracts people from far flung areas like Haveri and Gangavathi in Karnataka, as well as people from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Large number of farmers from Kolar and Chickballapur participate in the event.

The fair was the part of famous Sri Ramalingeshwara car festival which was held on Wednesday.

Avani fair is one the prominent cattle fair in Karnataka which provides farmers to sell and purchase best of the cattle to be used in farming activities. Here the cost of a pair of cattle will range from a minimum of Rs. 50,000 to maximum of Rs. 3.60 lakhs.

KSRTC has arranged additional buses from Mulbagal, Kolar and KGF depots for the convenience of people to participate in the fair and car festival.
