VADODARA, February 2: A one-and-a-half-year-old girl was raped by her uncle at Sama on Saturday. The girl was raped by Amarjeet Saroj near her residence near Sama canal. The accused has been arrested.
Saroj took the toddler away when she was playing in the courtyard of her house. The girl and her mother were alone at their house when the incident happened.
“The accused, who stays with the family, took the girl to an isolated place near her residence and raped her. We are trying to ascertain the chain of events. Saroj is undergoing medical tests,” said Sama police inspector J D Raval.
Raval added that Saroj, who is a casual labourer, has been in the city for the past four years. The accused is the cousin of the girl’s father. The girl’s parents learnt about the incident when they saw her crying on Saturday evening. She was rushed to the SSG Hospital.
The girl’s parents migrated to Vadodara from Uttar Pradesh four years ago in search of employment. The girl’s father is a casual labourer, while her mother is a housewife.
“We have booked Saroj under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” said Raval.
