New Delhi: BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking early hearing on his plea for directions for providing basic facilities to pilgrims at Ram Janambhoomi complex in Ayodhya.
He put his application before a bench headed by Chief Justice H.L. Dattu, which asked Mr. Swamy to check with the registry if the pleadings are complete in this matter .
“Check if the pleadings are complete in this matter. We will give a date thereafter,” the bench said.
Mr. Swamy said the status quo order passed by the apex court in 1996 was limited to prohibit building of any structure at the disputed site.
In his application, Mr. Swamy had sought order from the apex court to “ameliorate the lot of million of Hindu pilgrims who make the pilgrimage to the site of the Ram Janambhoomi at Ayodhya, to have darshan and perform pooja in honour of ‘Sri Ram Lalla Virajman’”.
